For Learn to Skate we suggest skates that fit properly and preferably are lace up. A secure fitting CSA approved helmet with face mask (ie: hockey helmet) is also required. Mittens are also suggested. For Hockey programs full equipment is needed: Shin pads, Hockey Socks, Hockey pants, Jock/Jill, Shoulder pads, Elbow Pads, Hockey gloves, Neck guard, CSA approved helmet with face mask, hockey skates & hockey stick.
We recommend a straight blade stick for children who have not yet determined their dominant side for holding a stick. Please remember children can switch sides multiple times before their dominant side is determined.
There is no difference when learning to skate. Both hockey & figure skates are equal when learning to skate. Laced skates are better than molded skates.
No, please do not alter the blade of a figure skate. The blade is designed for balance and any alteration will create unsteadiness for the skater.
